Hearing Tests in Long Island
We offer comprehensive hearing exams to test your ability to hear and we will determine what degree of hearing loss you have. The hearing test is simple; our providers will walk you through the entire process so you feel comfortable. During your exam we will perform the following types of diagnostic tests:
- Pure Tone Air
- Bone Conduction
- Speech and Word Discrimination
- Otoacoustic Emissions
- Tinnitus Test (if necessary)
Hearing Aid Evaluation
After your hearing test, we will discuss what type of hearing aids we believe will best help you. We work with all of the major hearing aid brands and can recommend a device that will be tailored to your unique hearing loss and needs.
Hearing Aid Fitting
Once you’ve found a pair of hearing aids that you would like to move forward with, we will custom fit the devices to your specific ear shape. The piece that sits in your ear will be custom molded to provide you with a perfect, comfortable fit. Then our hearing specialists will program your hearing aids depending on your degree of hearing loss and hearing goals.
Hearing Aid Repairs
If something isn’t working right with your hearing aids, bring them in and we’ll make any necessary adjustments. Whether you need a new hearing aid dome, wax guards, or a minor repair, we can fix your device in either of our offices.
We also provide regular cleanings of your hearing aids to ensure they are performing their best. Dust, dirt, and earwax can build up in the tiny components of your hearing aids, so it’s important to bring your devices in every six months for a deep cleaning.
Hearing Protection
You need your hearing to fully enjoy life and to effectively communicate with your friends and family. It’s important to protect your hearing from dangerous sounds that could harmfully impact your ability to hear. Loud noise exposure is one of the most common causes of hearing loss in people of all ages. To keep your hearing safe, it’s important to wear hearing protection whenever you are exposed to loud sounds.
At Wilks Hearing Center, we carry custom earmolds and we can even make ear impressions of your unique ear shape for a custom fit. Earmolds and earplugs for hearing conservation are crucial to protecting your hearing and will ensure you keep your ears healthy. Hearing protection is vital for concert goers, musicians, hunters, construction workers, and anyone else who is regularly exposed to loud sounds.
Tinnitus Management
If you’ve ever noticed a sound in your ears that isn’t externally present, you’re not alone. This is known as tinnitus and almost everyone will experience it at some point in their life. For many people, tinnitus is temporary, going away after a few seconds. But for some, tinnitus can be persistent, affecting quality of life.
If you struggle with annoying tinnitus, we have options for you. At Wilks Hearing Center, we carry tinnitus masking hearing aids that can help distract the brain from phantom sounds. Although hearing aids won’t stop ringing in the ears completely, they can help you experience relief.
